• Methylene bichloride
CAS Number: 75-09-2
Molecular Weight: 84.93 g/mol
Description:
Dichloromethane is widely used as a solvent in part because it is relatively inert. DCM's volatility and ability to dissolve a wide range of organic compounds makes it a useful solvent for many chemical processes. In the food industry, it is used to decaffeinate coffee and tea as well as to prepare extracts of hops and other flavourings. Its volatility has led to its use as an aerosol spray propellant and as a blowing agent for polyurethane foams.
Safety:
DCM is extremely flammable, keep away from heat, open flames or spark sources. DCM is generally recognized to have low acute and chronic toxicity if ingested and/or inhaled, it is however an irritant, causing mild skin irritation and moderate to severe eye irritation. If in the eyes, rinse with water several times.
